Nirvana’s Surviving Members Recall Genius & Pain of Kurt Cobain

When Kurt Cobain killed himself on April 5, 1994, he left behind two shell-shocked musicians who suddenly lost a close friend – but not their desire to make music.

“I remember the day after Kurt died, waking up and thinking, ‘Wow, I get to wake up again. Okay. Make good with what you’ve got,’ ” Dave Grohl said Saturday in a radio interview with Jon Stewart to mark the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind.

Asked if he thought he wouldn’t be able to enjoy music again, Krist Novoselic said he had felt the opposite. “It was so much reality,” Novoselic said, and he recalled thinking to himself: “No, I’m going to live.”

But of course, Grohl, 42, and Novoselic, 46, Nirvana’s drummer and bassist, would never forget their friend, who was just 27 when he died.

“Kurt could be really mellow and sweet, and then he would just flip. Just be, like, really intense,” Novoselic said. “So, that’s a lot of Nevermind’s … and Nirvana’s music. It was Kurt’s intensity captured through the music.”

At the end of the interview, Novoselic added: “I wish Kurt was here. It’s a big hole.”

Still, the interview, broadcast on Sirius XM, wasn’t all doom and gloom. “There’s a popular misconception that the band just traveled with a black cloud over our head all the time,” Grohl said. “But it was so not that way.”

Nevermind producer Butch Vig recalled Novoselic’s attempts to meet Lenny Kravitz. During one rehearsal, Kravitz happened to be playing in the studio next door.

“And all of a sudden you hear over the microphone: ‘Would Lenny Kravitz please come to the office?’ ” Vig recalled, imitating Novoselic’s crackly, nasal broadcasting voice. “Krist had broken into the office and grabbed the microphone.”

Another fond memory involved Cindy Crawford. “I was at the MTV Video Music Awards, and I had this beer,” recalls Novoselic. “And Cindy’s like, ‘What you got there?’ I’m like, ‘Beeeeer.’ And she took a hit off of it.”

As the studio audience cheered, Stewart joked, “You totally made out with Cindy Crawford. Same glass. That counts.”

Lady Gaga Meets President Obama!

The little monsters’ leader met the President of the USA on Sunday!

Lady Gaga attended a political fundraiser for President Barack Obama in Silicon Valley, Calif. According to CNN, the $35,800-a-person event for about 70 people was hosted in the yard of Facebook’s COO, Cheryl Sandberg.

On Wednesday, the 25-year-old pop star (real name: Stefani Germanotta) told her fans via Twitter she’s spent the past [few] days “reflecting, crying and yelling.” Her outrage, she explained, was over the suicide of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who took his own life because of bullying.

The teen, who took his life on Sept. 18, wrote in his final tweet: “Bye Mother Monster. Thank you for all you have done. Paws up forever.”

“I have so much anger,” Gaga said. “Bullying must become illegal. It is a hate crime. I am meeting with our president. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it.”

According to ABC News sources, Gaga asked Obama, 50, a question during the Q&A. She reportedly thanked him for what he’s accomplished and hosting his anti-bullying conference with Michelle Obama earlier this year. A source told the site the “You and I” singer then pleaded to “everyone in the room, including the president, to do what they can to prevent bullying.”

Alec Baldwin Breaks ‘SNL’ Hosting Record

This weekend, Alec Baldwin became the first person to host “Saturday Night Live” 16 times, according to NBC.

Baldwin made sure to mention his new record during his monologue opening Saturday’s show, notes New York Magazine. The “30 Rock” star kicked off “SNL”’s 37th season.

Hosting rival Steve Martin stopped by with Seth Rogen to make sure Alec broke the hosting record “without the use of steroids or performance enhancing drugs.” (Not a particularly funny bit.)

Before Saturday, Martin and Baldwin were tied for most-frequent host; each had hosted 15 times.

Justin Bieber Rents Out Staples Center for Selena Gomez Date

Justin Bieber is the romance king of the world!

After spending the day at the beach together on Friday, the singer took girlfriend Selena Gomez on a super-sized date that she’s not likely to forget.

After catching their pal Demi Lovato in concert at the Nokia Theater, the couple then headed next door to L.A.’s Staples Center, where they watched the tear-jerking romance Titanic … alone.

Bieber, according to reports, rented out the entire arena so he and Gomez, 19, could watch Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the Oscar-winning classic.

But Bieber, 17, didn’t have to pay for it! The Staples Center’s management reportedly allowed him the arena, which was available for the night, for free because Bieber has sold out the place three times. (Just don’t tell Gomez!)

“Romance isn’t dead,” Bieber Tweeted Friday. “Treat your lady right fellas.”

Big Time Rush Works Up a Sweat at Nickelodeon’s Day of Play

Every year Nickelodeon blacks out their network and urges kids to go outside to play, so the Big Time Rush boys were all geared up for Nickelodeon’s 8th annual Worldwide Day of Play held at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.

James, Logan, Kendall and Carlos, along with the rest of the Nick stars, all participated in an intense six team obstacle course which involved the signature pool of slime. They had the edge when they all participated because they were all super active when they were younger. (Besides their undeniable singing and acting talents, the boys all participated in sports while they were growing up. From BMX to soccer, these hotties have always had a competitive streak.)

Of course all the boys couldn’t be on the same team, so Kendall joined Team Yellow, James represented for the Team Black and Logan was a proud member of Team Green. Carlos’ hockey and lacrosse experience gave him the upper hand as he and the rest of Team Blue (which included Supah Ninjas‘ Ryan Potter, iCarly‘s Jennette McCurdy and Victorious’ Matt Bennett) took home the coveted gold medal. The former musical theater major couldn’t help and contain his enthusiasm as he tweeted:

“Go blue!!!! Can’t believe we won!!!!!”

Besides working up a sweat on the obstacle course, BTR also brought the heat as they performed their infectious tunes to a humongous crowd. The heartthrobs made thousands of girls squeal as they sang “Famous” and their hit single “Boyfriend”.

Snooki Shows Off Suddenly Slimmer Physique

America’s favorite meatball Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is looking a lot more svelte lately. The Jersey Shore star posed at Harrah’s Resort this weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey wearing an itty bitty dress that showed off her suddenly slim figure.

Snooki has been slimming down all summer and in April the 4’9″ star tweeted about her weight loss, writing:

“As everyone’s planning their night at the club, I’m wondering when Gold’s [Gym] closes.”

Even back in January, the reality star was working on her fitness, telling E!, “I try to eat healthy. I just have to quit the drinking so much. If I do drink, it’s going to be, like, vodka and seltzer … maybe like two or three.”

While filming the Jersey Shore in Florence, Italy, we saw Snooki taking time for her workouts. She even went on Ellen DeGeneres‘ show to give some work out tips. Check out that video below.

Jennifer Lopez Amazes Vegas Crowd in Tight, Sexy Red Dress

Work it, J-Lo!

Jennifer Lopez showed off her figure in a tight, sexy red dress during her performance Saturday in Las Vegas at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Just two months after splitting with hubby Marc Anthony, the 42-year-old glammed things up with bejeweled fishnet tights and a red feather cape.

Following Lopez’s show-stopping performance, the mom of 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme, dropped by PURE Nightclub inside of Caesars Palace. A source tells Us Weekly the singer arrived at the megaclub “with a very large entourage that included family, friends, her back-up dancers, [and her longtime manager] Benny Medina” shortly before 1 a.m.

Lopez changed out of her attention-grabbing red number and into a tight cream-colored dress with hot pink piping and matching hot pink heels. In the club, she was “surprised” that the entire VIP area was decked out with decor that mimicked her album cover for Love. A source tells Us she “immediately kicked off the party with a champagne toast followed by showing off her dance moves alongside her back-up dancers.”

When Steve Bartels, President of Island Records and COO of Island Def Jam Music Group, presented Lopez with a surprise honor for her first single “On the Floor” having been certified with over three million downloads, the newly single singer-actress hit the stage, “dancing and singing as ‘On the Floor’ played in the background.”

Charlie Sheen Talks ‘Two And A Half Men,’ Ashton Kutcher Debut

Sure, his character died in a meat explosion on a Paris subway, and then was mercilessly mocked for proclivities that hit close to real life, but Charlie Sheen still very much enjoyed the season premiere of the rejiggered “Two and a Half Men.”

“That’s got to be the highest attended funeral of all time,” he Sheen told Access Hollywood on Friday night. “And it’s interesting because I’m doing [a] film with Roman Coppola and there is a funeral scene in that. So I’m a guy that’s gonna have to survive my own funeral twice in the same year!”

Sheen will be starring in Coppola’s “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III,” which Variety reports is about a successful, wealthy graphic designer who sees his girlfriend break up with him and his life head into a downward spiral. Come to think of it, it’s a bit like Kutcher’s Walden Schmidt character on “Men.”

Sheen hosted a viewing party for the premiere episode of “Two and a Half Men,” even tweeting a picture of it. “Surrounded by friends and watching the premier [sic] of Two and a Half Men. Odd… But cool..! So far a lot of laughs!! Nice…” he wrote.

“It was a big night for everybody on Monday night — for ‘Two and a Half,’ for us, for me,” he said, referring to his old show and his own successful Comedy Central roast. “I think everybody won. I thought the show was really good. I thought [Ashton] was terrific.”

The kind words follow the new pattern of the Nice Charlie — very different from the psychotic Charlie that got him fired from the show back in the spring — who first emerged during an appearance with Jay Leno and then went global with a speech at the Emmys earlier in the month.

“From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best from this upcoming season. We spent eight wonderful years together, and I know you will continue to make great television,” he said, addressing the show before a worldwide audience. He also met with Kutcher backstage, tweeting out a photo of their meeting.

During his appearance with Leno, Sheen said that, based on his wild behavior, he “would have fired his ass,” from the show, too.

Anne Hathaway Catwoman Costume

Gotham, we have ears. All can relax.

When the first image of Anne Hathaway‘s Catwoman costume for “The Dark Knight Rises” was released, a veritable uproar from fanboys and purists rang out: the all black leather was nice, but that was no Catwoman. First off, they asked, what was with the goggles? And where was the mask? And the cat ears? Christopher Nolan, it seemed, had made his first misstep as steward of the dark caped crusader.

Then, Hathaway herself weighed in, shooing off the haters and promising that they’d soon be blown away by her skin-tight garb. “If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,” she told MTV earlier in the month.

Looks like she was right.

In a new photo caught on set, Hathaway is indeed rocking those in demand black cat ears and the eye mask, putting the traditional spin back on her Selina Kyle alter-ego. As filming winds down on the movie — they’ve shot on sets in London, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles — the picture provides some reassurance to those that were wary of her look.

Now, whether she can kick ass — we’ll just have to wait and see on that one.

Lady Gaga Sings Tribute To Bullied Teen At Festival

Pop star Lady Gaga is aiming to make bullying illegal following the suicide of bullied teen Jamey Rodemeyer, and over the weekend played a tribute to the 14-year-old, who took his life last week.

“I wanted to take a minute, because, I don’t know if any of you know this, but we lost a Little Monster,” she informed the crowd. “I wanted to dedicate this song to him tonight because he was really young.”

As she launched into the single “Hair,” she explained to the audience, “I wrote this record about how your identity’s all you’ve got when you’re in school…Jamey, I know you’re up there looking down on us. And you’re not a victim, you’re a lesson to all of us. So tonight, I know it’s a bit of a downer, but sometimes the right thing’s more important than the music isn’t it? Let’s do this for him – for Jamey.”

On September 18, the 14-year-old was found dead outside of his parents home in Buffalo, New York. His parents told Anderson Cooper on “AC: 360” that he’d endured bullying for years.

Rodemeyer, who’d been harassed at school because of his sexuality, counted Gaga as an inspiration. He said in a video he recorded as part of the It Gets Better campaign that he’d found solace and encouragement in the pop star’s message of self-acceptance.

Following Jamey’s death, Gaga tweeted, “The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger…It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someones life….Bullying must become illegal. It is a hate crime. I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey.”
