The countdown to Madonna‘s hyped Super Bowl performance is on, and the singer admits that she’s feeling some nerves.
“It’s the most nerve-wracking thing I’ve ever done,” Madge told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” Monday. “The Super Bowl is the holy of holies. It’s like the sacred show of America. And I have to go on in the middle of that holy of holies and put on the greatest show that was ever put on before. That’s no pressure.”
On top of not really getting a lot of rehearsal time – “they’re playing football all day so I don’t really have time to do a sound check. It’s a little bit like a circus act: Get in there, roll out my carpet, put on my show and get the eff off,” she joked – there’s also the fact that the Super Bowl halftime isn’t the place to exercise a lot of artistic license.
For one thing, there will be “no nipples” in her show, she assured Leno, referencing Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe breakdown. Not that she was going to do that, anyway: “I don’t like to repeat myself…or do what other people have done before me.”
But before her Super Bowl show, the video for Madonna’s new single “Gimme All Your Lovin'” from her upcoming album, “MDNA,” will preview on Thursday’s “American Idol.”
On her cryptic album title, Madonna tells Leno that it’s a “triple entendre,” with one interpretation being an abbreviated way of saying her name, and another standing for “the DNA of M.”
As for the third, “Let me break it down for you,” she said. “You’ve heard of this drug that produces euphoric feelings of love, MDMA?…Just listen to my record.”
The mystery behind Matthew Broderick‘s Ferris Bueller Super Bowl ad was short-lived, as Honda has released the extended commercial.
Although the teaser clip that circulated last week told viewers they’d have to wait until Sunday to see what Broderick was up to, we should know by now that the Internet waits for no official release date.
Broderick, 49, plays himself in the clip, but with plenty of “Bueller” references. (Such as the hotel’s parking attendant saying in a Ben Stein-esque deadpan, “Broderick?…Broderick?”)
After calling in sick, Broderick takes off in the 2012 Honda CR-V (instead of Cameron’s dad’s 1961 Ferrari) for a day on the town, hitting up the beach, a parade and the Natural History museum as Yello’s “Oh Yeah” plays in the background.
Honda explains in the clip’s description on YouTube that they “hid over two dozen references to the movie throughout the commercial. Some are obvious, some are VERY subtle. See how many you can find.”
Jay-Z has rapped about making “the song cry,” and now it seems like he is aiming to get fans welling up with his latest song, a tribute to his newborn daughter.
The rapper and his wife, singer Beyonce, had a baby girl over the weekend, the couple announced in a statement Monday.
“We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012,” the pair say in a post on Beyonce‘s website. “Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 pounds and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”
Meanwhile, the New York City hospital where the couple welcomed their newborn has issued a statement of its own to denounce reports that Beyonce and Jay-Z received special treatment.
“Lenox Hill Hospital and its staff were delighted to welcome the Carter family for the birth of their firstborn on Saturday evening, but we are troubled by the misinformation being circulated in some news media reports,” the executive director of the Lenox Hill Hospital, Frank Danza, said in a statement Monday. “The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true. The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations. Our executive suites are available for any patient, including the food service and amenities provided to the Carter family.”
There were also rumors that a father was prevented from seeing his premature twin girls by Beyonce and Jay-Z’s security team, but Danza denies the reports. While the superstar couple did have their own security, “No security plan that we or the Carters’ security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and to date, no families have complained to the hospital about being denied access to the NICU.”
Danza adds that the hospital has “have made every effort to ensure minimal disruption to other families experiencing the births of their own children over the past three days.”
On Monday, Jay-Z focused on baby Blue by releasing a song titled “Glory” on his website “Life + Times,” along with a single statement: “Life just got REALLY good.”
Jay-Z rhymes on the song, which features B.I.C. – three guesses what those initials stand for – “The most amazing feeling I feel/words can’t describe what I’m feeling for real/baby, I paint the sky blue/my greatest creation was you.”
On the song, Jay says of his inspiration: “You’re a child of destiny/you’re the child of my destiny/you’re my child with the child from Destiny’s Child/that’s a hell of a recipe.” He adds at another point, “The most beautifulest thing in this world/is daddy’s little girl.”
The 42-year-old also appears to get surprisingly personal, considering how comparatively private the couple are. “You don’t know what swag is yet but you was made in Paris/and mama woke up the next day and shot an album package,” Jay-Z says on the track. “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic/we was afraid you disappeared/but nah, baby, you magic.”
The 30-year-old singer’s daughter arrived via scheduled caesarean section at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City last night.
The couple’s close friend Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed the baby’s name on Twitter, writing: ‘Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.’
Beyoncé’s 42-year-old rapper husband Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, was by her side during the birth, according to reports.
A source told Beyoncé’s hometown newspaper Houston Chronicle that ‘mother and baby are doing fine‘.
The baby’s middle name Ivy may be in reference to Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s love of the number 4. They married on April 4, 2008, Beyoncé’s latest album is called 4 and the couple have matching tattoos of the roman numeral for 4 – IV – on their wedding fingers.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z were also born on September 4 and December 4 respectively.
Regarding Blue, Jay-Z has a trilogy of albums with the word in the title. The Blueprint was released in 2001 around the time he got together with Beyoncé, The Blueprint2: The Gift & The Curse came out in 2002 and The Blueprint 3 in 2009.
Despite initial confusion the baby was named Ivy Blue, E! reporter Ken Baker later clarified friends of the couple have confirmed the newborn was actually called Blue Ivy.
Paltrow also clarified the name to a confused Twitter follower: ‘It’s Blue Ivy Carter.’
And the singer’s younger sister Solange tweeted today: ‘The most beautiful girl in the world.’
Pretty much everyone but Justin Timberlake has said he’s engaged to girlfriend Jessica Biel, with the latest person sharing the news reportedly being his grandmother.
According to Gossip Cop, Timberlake’s grandma, Sadie Bomar, has confirmed that he’s engaged, saying the 30-year-old singer/actor called her on Christmas Day to say as much.
She also reportedly said that she’s “so happy” for her grandson, and that “the family loves Jessie [Biel], she’s a very sweet girl.” Aww!
Timberlake and Biel actually broke up after four years in March of 2011, but by last August were spotted spending time together once again.
A source tells People magazine that Timberlake proposed to Biel with a “custom-designed” ring on the couple’s annual vacation in Montana.
The Hallmark Channel is singing Martha Stewart‘s praises…as they prepare to say farewell to her daytime show this year.
Reports have surfaced that Hallmark is canceling “The Martha Stewart Show,” and a rep for the network says in a statement on behalf of Crown Media Family Networks and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia that the show will stick around through the end of the summer.
“The daytime block on Hallmark Channel demonstrated year over year ratings growth and earned ‘The Martha Stewart Show‘ two Daytime Emmy Awards in its first season on Hallmark,” the statement congratulates. It then adds, “That show will continue to air through the end of summer 2012.”
A source familiar with the situation tells The Wrap that the lifestyle show will cease taping new episodes in the spring, with reruns to air over the summer before its cleared from the calendar. The show, which has run for seven seasons, is said to have suffered from a slide in ratings.
Hallmark is nonetheless hopeful for its future with 70-year-old Stewart, as the network says in its statement, “MSLO and Hallmark Channel are in discussions about potential new show formats and concepts for daytime.”
Drew Barrymore is joining the parade of celebs who’ve decided to head toward the altar. The 36-year-old actress is engaged to art consultant Will Kopelman, her rep tells reporters.
According to E!, the two have been dating for almost a year and got engaged over the holidays. Kopelman reportedly asked for Barrymore’s hand in marriage while they were on a 10-day vacation in Sun Valley, Idaho.
This’ll be the third wedding for Barrymore, who was previously married to Tom Green for five months after their 1999 nuptials, and to club owner Jeremy Thomas for less than two months in 1994.
It’s time for another (faintly ridiculous) celebrity money list!
The list tallies box office receipts over the past five years, and the actors who played Ron and Hermione in the Potter franchise saw their four films in that period earn a staggering $4.2 billion.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are #2 with the Twilight Saga romance raking in $2.5 billion over the same period.
While they only made two Transformers films together, on-screen love interests Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox managed to land in third place with $1.5 billion.
What makes the roundup so… random… is that while romantic pairings like Stewart-Pattinson and Sex and the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth are at the heart of those films, we have a hard time believing that many people saw blockbusters like Iron Man or Inception solely because of the “love interests.”
The full list:
1. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – $4.2 billion
2. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson – $2.5 billion
3. Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf – $1.5 billion
4. Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey, Jr. – $1.2 billion
5. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Shia LaBeouf – $1.1 billion
6. Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp – $1 billion
7. Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom – $963 million
8. Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire – $890 million
9. Marion Cotillard and Leonardo DiCaprio – $825 million
10. Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth – $703 million
Beyonce definitely still has a bun in the oven!
There was speculation over the holidays about whether the 30-year-old singer had given birth, but Jay-Z‘s pregnant wife put the rumors to rest when she stepped out in NYC Thursday clutching her huge baby bump.
Wearing skinny jeans, gold heels, an ornate scarf and black blazer, Beyonce was all smiles as a bodyguard accompanied her out of a New York office building.
So if she didn’t ring in the New Year giving birth at the hospital, how did Beyonce and Jay-Z, 42, finish out 2011? With fried chicken and oysters! A source said that the duo dined at Brooklyn’s Buttermilk Channel restaurant.
Nobody gives a gift quite like Angelina Jolie.
The In the Land of Blood and Honey director, 36, purchased a waterfall in California for longtime love Brad Pitt, according to The Daily Mail. The grand gesture served as both Pitt’s 48th birthday and Christmas presents.
Pitt, who has six children with Jolie, is planning to build a house over the waterfall inspired by his favorite American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
“Brad has dreamed of a home with the sound of a waterfall cascading under the house,” a source tells the site. “He wants to pull all aspects of nature, light, glass and varying levels into the concept.”
Jolie’s gift couldn’t have come at a better time, given that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi recently bought the couple’s former Malibu abode.
“Angelina wanted to get him something incredibly special and, because she knows how much he loves architecture, she thought this would be perfect”. “This is the present to top all presents.”
The home will reportedly be similar to Lloyd Wright‘s Fallingwater, which was completed in 1939 in Pennsylvania on a similar piece of land. Jolie and Pitt first visited the iconic house in 2006.
