The “American Idol” judges had praise for Jane Carrey when they voted to send her on to Hollywood week, but it looks like Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have held firm to their statement that the daughter of actor Jim Carrey wasn’t going to get special treatment.
Us Weekly reports that the 24-year-old gave a “shaky” performance of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Looking Out My Back Door,” and that Jane knew even before she was done singing that she wasn’t going to become the next “Idol.”
“I freaked out when I was [up] there so I was really, really shaky,” Jane said of her flubbed rendition. “I know I can do way better than that, so I’m really disappointed.”
Jane also placed a call to her dad, who’s gushed to CNN about his daughter’s talent, to ease the disappointment.
“I talked to my dad and he was kind of comforting,” Jane said. The 50-year-old actor told her, “‘I’ve been said no to a bunch of times,'” Jane said, “and it worked out for him. So hopefully I have a shot.”
Many were surprised that the judges had given the go-ahead to Jane when she auditioned in San Diego, but judge Jennifer Lopez told us that she really was impressed with the singer-songwriter’s vocals.
“To [reject] her because of who her dad is would not be fair either,” Lopez said. “She sang well and we put her through to the next round, period. That’s how it goes. If she wasn’t [good], we would have had to say very sadly, ‘No, and say “Hi” to your dad for me.’ But that wasn’t the case, she earned her way to the next step.”
Unfortunately, she couldn’t make it any further. What do you think – was it time for Jane Carrey to go?
What are fashion fans most thankful for this week?
Not Christina Aguilera‘s American Music Awards outfit!
After going pants-less last month, the “Dirrty” singer sparked yet another style uproar performing in L.A. Sunday in a white, way-too-tight bandage dress by Herve Leger; the frock’s less-than-flattering fit even provoked fans to wonder whether the 30-year-old singer and Voice mentor is expecting.
For that talked-about performance look, Aguilera is among this week’s “Fashion Turkeys” in a Thanksgiving edition of Fashion Police, hosted by Us Weekly’s Andrea Lavinthal and Justin Ravitz.
But Aguilera’s not the only superstar to win the dubious honor. Fellow AMA performer Jennifer Lopez may have gone too over-the-top with five super-sexy outfits — including one sparkly, flesh-toned body suit that recalled (ripped off?) Britney Spears’ “Toxic” days.
Jennifer Lopez is single, and boy does she want you to know how hot she is.
Lopez took the stage at the 2011 American Music Awards, and while the performance started out essentially as a live Fiat commercial similar to her television campaign, things quickly got a whole lot sexier when she transitioned into “On the Floor” — and danced around in a bikini bodysuit (a la Britney Spears back in the day) and shook her, um, assets, right up on Pitbull’s lap.
J-Lo danced, shook and sexily shimmied her way across the stage during the performance, earning her huge cheers from the crowd once it was all over.
Minutes later, her ex-husband Marc Anthony also took the stage with Pitbull. Awkward much?
If it was, you never would have known it! Jennifer threw a party at new hotspot Greystone Manor after the AMA’s and all her attention was on new guy Casper Smart, 24. The couple sipped on Grey Goose cocktails and got hands-y with one another (literally). While sneaking some kisses in at their private booth, the couple left the venue together around 12:30 holding hands.
Jennifer Lopez is mixing business with pleasure!
Over the weekend, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that the newly single star, 42, has been romantically involved with backup dancer Casper Smart, 24, for a few weeks. (The Insider broke the news of the new romance on Saturday.)
TMZ has the first photo of the unexpected twosome together, posing semi-affectionately backstage following Lopez’s July 19 performance in the Republic of Crimea in Ukraine. (Smart and a crew of dancers help Lopez entertain the guests of a lavish wedding within days of her announced split from hubby Marc Anthony.)
Smart also shared the stage with the superstar during a May 5 American Idol performance in L.A.
Lopez’s new guy has also performed with Beyonce (at the 2010 Grammy Awards) and even the late Michael Jackson (on his “This Is It” tour). The 5’8″ hunk has also appeared in such films as Honey 2 and Step-Up 3D.
An insider adds that, for now at least, it’s “nothing serious” for the pair, who were seen together in NYC last week.
Of course, Smart isn’t the American Idol judge’s first dancer beau: She and Cris Judd, a dancer on her “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” video, were married for less than a year from 2001 to 2002.
After a big romance and canceled engagement to Ben Affleck, she married crooner Anthony, 43, in mid-2004. The exes share twins Emme and Max, 3.
Sandra Bullock was once slated to don the big red hat on the big screen, but now that J. Lo’s signed on to produce, rumors are swirling that the diva will also take the lead as the elusive detective.
The plot will bring about a “cat-and-mouse” game between Carmen and her former ACME agency partner when it’s suspected that Carmen has become “the world’s greatest thief.” The former partner takes on the role of the one who follows her clues to figure out her location. According to Deadline, they’re aiming for a “National Treasure” meets “The Thomas Crown Affair” feel to the film.
In addition to the educational computer game, “Carmen Sandiego” also landed at PBS in the ’90s as a geography-based game show for kids.
We haven’t heard much from Jennifer Lopez regarding her July split from husband Marc Anthony, but the singer did open up a bit while performing over the weekend.
Lopez took the stage at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Saturday night, and though she wowed the crowd as usual, she let her emotions go for a moment while on stage.
“I’m going to sing you the last song I wrote about love,” she told the crowd. “A lot has changed since then.”
Lopez then broke out into her song “Until It Beats No More” while J.Lo lookalike dancers performed an homage to her past relationships, complete with Diddy, Ben Affleck and Marc Anthony lookalikes.
“A little trip down memory lane,” she said after the song ended, tearing up on the stage as the crowd gave her a standing ovation.
But it wasn’t all tears at Lopez’s concert, which was in celebration of Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary. “Glee” star Lea Michele caught the show and tweeted her excitement Saturday night.
J. Lo‘s got a swanky new bachelorette pad!
In late August, Jennifer Lopez, 42, purchased an $18 million mansion in the Water Mill area of The Hamptons, New York. The 14,000-square foot home features seven bedrooms and nine and half baths.
Built in 2010 by architect Richard Perrillo of East End Builders, the shingle-style home sits on two acres of land and is surrounded by water.
Other amenities include heated marble floors in the master bath, several walk-in closets, a formal dining room, a library with white oak paneling, seven fireplaces, a media room, dockage on Mecox Bay and a pool.
The property also boasts a first floor guest suite with garden views, an elevator and an attached three-car garage.
The American Idol judge — currently shooting the movie Parker in Palm Beach, Florida — won’t be settling into her new digs with three-year-old twins Max and Emme just yet.
“She is moving in in a few months,” a source tells Us Weekly.
Though she’s new to the neighborhood, Lopez has been visiting The Hamptons for years. Less than a month after announcing her split with hubby Marc Anthony, 41, in July, the “On the Floor” singer reunited with her ex at Sagg Main Beach in Southampton, New York.
Work it, J-Lo!
Jennifer Lopez showed off her figure in a tight, sexy red dress during her performance Saturday in Las Vegas at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Just two months after splitting with hubby Marc Anthony, the 42-year-old glammed things up with bejeweled fishnet tights and a red feather cape.
Following Lopez’s show-stopping performance, the mom of 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme, dropped by PURE Nightclub inside of Caesars Palace. A source tells Us Weekly the singer arrived at the megaclub “with a very large entourage that included family, friends, her back-up dancers, [and her longtime manager] Benny Medina” shortly before 1 a.m.
Lopez changed out of her attention-grabbing red number and into a tight cream-colored dress with hot pink piping and matching hot pink heels. In the club, she was “surprised” that the entire VIP area was decked out with decor that mimicked her album cover for Love. A source tells Us she “immediately kicked off the party with a champagne toast followed by showing off her dance moves alongside her back-up dancers.”
When Steve Bartels, President of Island Records and COO of Island Def Jam Music Group, presented Lopez with a surprise honor for her first single “On the Floor” having been certified with over three million downloads, the newly single singer-actress hit the stage, “dancing and singing as ‘On the Floor’ played in the background.”
“American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Wednesday to talk about tonight’s “So You Think You Can Dance” finale…. and to drop an “Idol” bomb.
Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson will all be back behind the judges’ table for the show’s eleventh season.
The announcement came after Seacrest asked Lythgoe, “Do you want to go ahead and do the Jennifer announcement here, or are we still waiting?”
To which Lythgoe responded, “I believe we’re still waiting for the official announcement, but I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of ‘American Idol,’ [are] back for the next season.”
