President Obama’s A Catwoman Fan

Well no wonder Anne Hathaway was spotted “beaming and laughing” at a fundraiser for President Obama on Monday.

The “Dark Knight Rises” actress was the recipient of some personal approval from the President at the event, which was held in Connecticut at Harvey Weinstein‘s home.

Obama told those gathered that Hathaway “is spectacular,” and offered his critique of her latest film.

“I did get a chance to see Batman. And she was the best thing in it. That’s just my personal opinion.”

We’re not sure if moviegoers are flocking to see “The Dark Knight Rises” just for Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of Selina Kyle, but we do know the film is flourishing at the box office.

Reports indicated this week that Christopher Nolan‘s final Batman installment is the No. 2 film of the year with a worldwide gross of $732 million.

Trailer Lands For ‘Dark Knight Rises’

We have months still to go until Christopher Nolan‘s “The Dark Knight Rises” bows in theaters, but there’s now a full trailer to tide us over.

It begins “in peace time,” with an ominous rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner being performed at a football game. Tom Hardy‘s villainous masked Bane stalks menacingly as a football field full of players will soon meet their demise, and Anne Hathaway‘s Selina Kyle issues a dire warning to Christian Bale‘s Bruce Wayne/Batman.

“You think this can last. There’s a storm coming, Mr. Wayne,” she says, before dropping into a whisper. “You and your friends better batten down the hatches. ‘Cause when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large, and leave so little for the rest of us.”

“The Dark Knight Rises” opens next July.

Anne Hathaway Catwoman Costume

Gotham, we have ears. All can relax.

When the first image of Anne Hathaway‘s Catwoman costume for “The Dark Knight Rises” was released, a veritable uproar from fanboys and purists rang out: the all black leather was nice, but that was no Catwoman. First off, they asked, what was with the goggles? And where was the mask? And the cat ears? Christopher Nolan, it seemed, had made his first misstep as steward of the dark caped crusader.

Then, Hathaway herself weighed in, shooing off the haters and promising that they’d soon be blown away by her skin-tight garb. “If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,” she told MTV earlier in the month.

Looks like she was right.

In a new photo caught on set, Hathaway is indeed rocking those in demand black cat ears and the eye mask, putting the traditional spin back on her Selina Kyle alter-ego. As filming winds down on the movie — they’ve shot on sets in London, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles — the picture provides some reassurance to those that were wary of her look.

Now, whether she can kick ass — we’ll just have to wait and see on that one.

Eddie Murphy As Oscars Host – Good or Bad Choice?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the coveted, highly anticipated host of the 2012 Oscars will be comedian and actor Eddie Murphy. Now this is not an easy gig.

Last year, the Academy tried to make the telecast more youthful by having young Hollywood superstars Anne Hathaway and James Franco co-host – a decision critics bashed after the show fell flat and Franco seemed to show a lack of interest in his hosting gig.

Now the Academy is putting its faith in Eddie Murphy, who also follows in the footsteps of past comedian/entertainer hosts like Bob Hope, Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin.

So far, it seems like Hollywood is on board with Eddie too. I caught up with Whoopi at the season premiere of “The View” and she thinks Eddie would be a great choice. She says, “You have to have a funny person. You have to have somebody that loves the movies, you have to have somebody who’s engaged and I think Eddie is engaged. He knows our business, he gets what the audience is like… I love the idea of Eddie Murphy.”

Showbiz Tonight” also caught up with actor Nick Nolte (Murphy’s co-star in their classic flick “48 Hours”) at the premiere of Nolte’s new film “Warrior” and he also thinks Murphy is a great choice. “He’s going to be great,” Nolte says. “You know with Eddie, it’s a pure genius. You just don’t know what he’s going to bring. He’ll bring a lot of humor. A lot of fun to it.”

I think Eddie’s got the right personality for this gig and he should be great. The question is though, is he relevant enough to draw in viewers? Although Murphy used to star in many hit movies, his biggest recent role has been “Donkey” in the “Shrek” films, although Eddie was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for “Dreamgirls” back in 2006.

Anne Hathaway’s living on ‘kale and dust’ for ‘Dark Knight Rises’

While prepping to play Selina Kyle in “The Dark Knight Rises,” Anne Hathaway is committed – not only has she switched up her lifestyle to accommodate the reality that she’s got to fit into a catsuit, but she even considered getting a cat to examine, just for the role.

“I actually had this moment when I convinced one of the assistant directors on the London portion of the film to get a cat with me, the idea being that we were going to get a kitten from a rescue shelter, and he was going to live with me, and I was going to observe it, and when I left London I was going to give it to her,” Hathaway recalled to Chelsea Handler in Interview magazine.

“Then, thankfully, her husband pointed out that that was a terrible idea on so many levels, not the least of which being that it would probably be really confusing to the cat.”

But she doesn’t only have to get the character right – she also has to work on her physique. Although she’s explained to Handler on her show, E!’s “Chelsea Lately,” before that she doesn’t like working out, it seems the 28-year-old actress has found a way to embrace it.

“I really like it now. Actually, I think I’d never really gotten over the hump – there’s a workout hump where you’re so weak everything is painful and you look like an idiot,” she says. “The gym where I work out, I was literally working out next to a pregnant Jessica Alba, and she could do more push-ups than I could.”

Now, though, she’s starting to take up Bikram yoga, and “like, living on kale and dust, for the training,” she tells Handler on her show. “The catsuit’s unforgiving man. [I get into the suit] with a lot of motivation…it takes three of us. And the movie I think shoots over six months, so it’s not like you focus your efforts for one day, [you have to] really get into it.”

While that does mean that she’s ceased doing a lot of indulging, she hasn’t become a complete teetotaler.

“You’ve gotta have a little fun,” she says of drinking just a bit. “The character’s naughty anyway, so if I was perfectly behaved I wouldn’t be honoring her.”
