Sugarland Concert Stage Collapse Kills 5

Five people are dead and about 40 more were injured, officials confirmed, after high winds caused the collapse of a stage at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Saturday as crowds waited to see Sugarland perform.

Concertgoers at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand in Indianapolis were warned that in the case of inclement weather, they were to move to the Pepsi Coliseum nearby.

“We are all right,” Sugarland Tweeted on Saturday night in response. “We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you’ll join us. They need your strength.”

Opening act Sara Bareilles performed her set before the bad weather struck. She also expressed her condolences via Twitter, writing, “I’m speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost.”
