Francis Ford Coppola: Should’ve Stopped with ‘Godfather’

AMC is airing “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II” on Thanksgiving, but if Francis Ford Coppola had his way, there wouldn’t be enough material for a marathon.

The filmmaker, who won an Oscar with 1974’s sequel to the critically acclaimed “The Godfather,” sounded pretty resolute when he told TMZ that he wouldn’t pick up the Corleone storyline for another film.

In fact, he goes on, “There should’ve only been one” movie to begin with. Harsh words for fans of the film series, although we think there are those who could live without 1990’s “The Godfather: Part III.”

In the meantime, there’s also a prequel novel to Mario Puzo’s 1969 best-seller, “The Godfather.”
