Christopher Nolan Spills ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Details

Empire magazine has some new details on the upcoming “The Dark Knight Rises” in its latest issue, which also features two covers: one of Batman, and the other of Bane.

Director Christopher Nolan reveals to the magazine that a lot of time has passed in between the conclusion of 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and the starting point for 2012’s “Rises.

“It’s really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne‘s story. We left him in a very precarious place,” Nolan tells Empire. “Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after ‘The Dark Knight.’ So he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”

Nolan adds that the idea is to push Batman to the limit, physically as well as mentally, hence having Bane as the villain, played by Tom Hardy.

The actor tells Empire that his character is “brutal…He’s a big dude who’s incredibly clinical in the fact that he has a results-based and oriented fighting style. It’s not about fighting. It’s about carnage.”

No, really. Hardy goes on to paint the picture of the masked villain’s terrorizing actions: “Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones….He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action.”

The Dark Knight Rises” bows July 20, 2012.
