Bill Clinton Does Funny or Die Video
Following his serenade from Lady Gaga, former U.S. President Bill Clinton is showing more pop culture panache with a Funny or Die comedy sketch that premiered Saturday.
The five-minute video, “Clinton Foundation: Celebrity Brainstorm,” was shown at the Hollywood Bowl during Saturday’s concert benefiting the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation. Comedy web site Funny or Die posted the video at midnight on Tuesday.
The sketch sees the Clinton Foundation’s Celebrity Division (Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Kristen Wiig, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen) brainstorming ideas for the organization.
Kristen Wiig pitches a “Global Breathing Initiative,” wherein everyone in the world would hold their breath for one minute per day, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
Sean Penn suggests an initiative “whereby people do not steal my lunch from the break room fridge.” Matt Damon suggests an office softball team to boost morale. “The mascot would be a cheetah,” he says. Jack Black chimes in via video chat with a catchy theme song.
At the end of the sketch, Clinton catches Kevin Spacey making a crank call from his office.
Though it may appear that the cast members were together shooting the video, only Stiller, Danson and Steenburgen were actually ever in the same room.
Clinton was shot at his Foundation office in New York, and though he’s shown with Kevin Spacey, the actor was actually shot in California, as was Jack Black. The rest of the cast was in New York.
“It was long days for the crew, for sure, creating that continuity and that world where they’re together, right down to the littlest things, like where a bagel was placed,” said the video’s producer, Christin Trogan.
